Apple hardly golden for tech ‘Geniuses’

It doesn’t always pay to be a “genius.”

New York steamfitters, map makers and costume designers make a lot more money than the tech experts working behind the Apple Genius Bar, a new — if unscientific — survey on job pay shows.

Contributors at social link-sharing Web site Reddit started a poll asking New Yorkers to post their positions and salaries. While a Genius Bar worker makes $48,000 a year, according to a post, one cartographer is pulling in about $80,000. And laying down sprinkler pipe brings in as much as $200,000 a year, according to one worker.

One FDNY EMT reported just $31,000, an air-cargo handler said he earned $44,000, and a public-school teacher claimed to make $62,000.

Meanwhile, a costume designer reported a $110,000 annual paycheck — with three months off.

Not surprisingly, lawyers, bankers and folks with senior Web-designing gigs were consistently listed as earning six-figure salaries.
