Weary residents of a Hell’s Kitchen co-op say rowdy bar patrons who spill onto to the sidewalk in front of their homes are making their lives miserable, all while safely hidden from view behind a row of parked postal trucks.
“The trucks park bumper-to-bumper and completely block the entrance to our building,” fumed Holly Kanfer, a Garment District retailer who has lived in the building at 325 W. 52nd St. for 20 years. “It’s insane!”
“Drunks hide behind the postal trucks, doing drugs, having sex, vomiting, fighting, breaking bottles and just hooting and hollering until 4 in the morning,” she added.
The mayhem only got worse once warm weather arrived, with more and more party people jamming clubs like Industry, Therapy and Bamboo 52 between Eighth and Ninth avenues.
Cops and the State Liquor Authority have been of little help, neighbors say, and the Postal Service has so far turned a deaf ear to their pleas to park the trucks across the street in front of the postal facility there.
The block association and Community Board 4 have gotten involved, asking the Postal Service to move the trucks, which also block the fire hydrant in front of the building.
Representatives for the Postal Service did not respond to requests for comment.
