Tony Playland sets Rockaway revival complex

The Rockaways scene is getting increasingly upscale.

Playland Motel, with a tony restaurant and pizza place, is set to open in a few weeks, Side Dish has learned.

The complex includes Playland Diner — a 50-seat restaurant — and Playland Pizza, a casual pizza joint. There will also be a bar and a rooming-house-style motel.

The motel has 12 seasonal rooms, or “class B” rentals, while the restaurant is based on the site of an old clam bar.

The complex was scheduled to open by Memorial Day but suffered some flooding damage, said the owner/developer Jamie Wiseman, who bought the property two months before Superstorm Sandy and dealt with five feet of water in his new property.

Wiseman, who lives in Williamsburg, also bought a beach house in the Rockaways. “It’s exciting and really important for people to be able to get to the beach,” he said.

Wiseman is also in talks with Rockabus to create a new stop from Battery Harris, a new restaurant/bar in Williamsburg named for a Rockaway armory, to Playland.
