Awesome Stuff: SDCC exclusives I’d want
If money were no object and I had time to stand on the lines or work the web just the right way, there’s a whole bunch o’Awesome Stuff I’d want from San Diego Comic-Con this year.
Last week, I wrote about Mattel’s Batusi Batman and Mezco’s ’66 Batmobile set. Here be the rest of my list:
Walter White in his meth-cooking get-up, Mezco, $35.
Because it’s so subversely weird that Walter White has an action figure, complete with cooking gear, barrel … and flyswatter.
Miniature Stark shield from “Game of Thrones,” Dark Horse Comics, $30.
Because this 7-inch replica won’t protect you any better than a real one would at the Red Wedding.
Star Trek “fine art” coasters, Bif Bang Pow!, Entertainment Earth booth, $100.
I love these. They’re based on a series of posters produced for each original-series episode, designed by Juan Ortiz to look like groovy ‘60s movie one-sheets. The Series 1 set includes 40. Perfect when serving Romulan ale.
Two more items worth noting: The Man of Steel Superman-Zod two-pack ($50) and the DC New 52 Shazam! from Mattel ($25).
I mention them because the good folks from Mattel sent them over and I’d figure I’d check them out, even though they’re not items I’d immediately consider for myself. You may feel very differently.
Man of Steel two-pack
Here’s the fancy outer box, which I like:
Here’s how it looks out of the box, which is pretty cool. I especially like Superman’s pose:
Spit-curled Superman up close:
And – aaaaaaahhh – heat vision!
I didn’t like the movie at all. This is a neat set, though. That price tag makes it strictly for the real fan, however.
Shazam!
I like the outer box of Billy Batson shouting the magic word …
And here’s the fig:
I’m not 100 percent sold on the look of the New 52 Shazam, but that’s not Mattel’s fault. I think it’s the hood, but it does come off. I also have a hard time with Badass Shazam but perhaps that’s the old in me. What creepy eyes. So I dunno. Would I get this? Probably. Depends on how much I had left in my pocket.
