SAN FRANCISCO — Investigators have found no mechanical problem with the Asiana jet that crashed here last Saturday, putting the focus of the probe squarely on the pilots.
NTSB Chairwoman Deborah Hersman yesterday said that Asiana Flight 214 showed no sign of breakdown and that voice recorders indicated the Boeing 777’s pilots failed to notice their approach was low until it was too late.
Hersman has said pilots Lee Gang-kuk and Lee Jeong-Min, who was training Gang-kuk to land, were ultimately responsible for the landing.
Yesterday, she said that Gang-kuk, who has told investigators he saw a flash of light at about 500 feet, might have seen a reflection of the sun that did not prevent him from being able to see his instruments.
