Murder suspect Aaron Hernandez doesn’t have many people in his corner. But two of his former teammates at Florida are showing support for their friend.
In a picture posted on Instagram on Sunday by a South Florida radio show, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey were donning hats which read, “FREE HERNANDEZ”.
Both twins, who play center, were teammates with Hernandez on the Gators and were first-round picks (Maurkice in 2010 and Mike in 2011). Mike was Hernandez’s roommate at Florida and all three were questioned by cops for a 2007 shooting in Florida.
A source told ESPN that the Steelers will discuss the incident with Maurkice, and the Dolphins would do the same with Mike. And Maurkice did apologize Monday morning.
“I fully recognize the seriousness of the situation involving my former teammate, and I regret that my actions appear to make light of that serious situation. I apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions,” he wrote on Twitter.
Hernandez was arrested on June 26 and later charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd. He was released by the Patriots immediately after the arrest.
