Smith shows off strong arm at Jets practice

CORTLAND – Geno Smith has shown off his speed in training camp over the first few days. On Sunday, he showed off his arm.

Smith threw a pretty 50-yard pass down the sideline to Stephen Hill on the play of the day in Jets practice. Smith worked with the starting offense for the first time in camp as the team alternates every two days between Smith and Mark Sanchez. Smith finished up 4-for-6 with a sack. Sanchez was 5-of-7 with a sack.

Practice was delayed a bit on Sunday after a storm hit in the morning that forced the Jets off the field. They did not get back out there until the late afternoon.

The two quarterbacks have done a nice job so far protecting the football. Both players have been steady, but Smith continues to provide a “wow” factor that Sanchez hasn’t whether it is running or throwing.

RB Joe McKnight always seems to have something wrong with him and Sunday it was a migraine in the morning that kept him off the field. He was out there when practice resumed in the afternoon, but did not look good. He was doubled over at times and drew the wrath of the coaches at one point. It is possible he was still feeling the effects of the migraine. McKnight initially failed his conditioning test. He blamed it on dehydration.
