Mets bust Bay let go by Mariners: report

Jason Bay’s time with the Mariners didn’t even last four months.

After struggling for most of the season, Bay, the former Mets outfielder was designated for assignment by Seattle Monday afternoon as first reported by Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.

Bay went 3-for-29 in July with one home run accounting for his only RBI, and was batting .204 with 11 home runs and 20 RBIs on the season. In 70 games, the leftfielder had more home runs then he did all of last season with the Mets (eight).

He had become the odd man out in a crowded outfield with Raul Ibanez, Dustin Ackley, Michael Saunders, Endy Chavez and now Michael Morse coming off the DL.

After three injury-plagued and disastrous season with the Mets, he was bought out by the team in the offseason and they still owe him $21 million. Bay signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Mariners to try and revitalize his career.

The thee-time All-Star could catch on with another team in need of a right-handed hitter who would come cheap.
