The Jets are waiting for the NFL’s discipline hammer to come down on them after the brawl at the end of last week’s loss to the Patriots.
Offensive linemen Nick Mangold, Willie Colon and D’Brickashaw Ferguson all are likely to be fined, but they will not be suspended, according to a source.
The brawl was triggered after Mangold hit Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib out of bounds in the legs, which drew a penalty, after Talib intercepted Geno Smith with 38 seconds left in the 13-10 Patriots win. The hit occurred on the Patriots’ sideline and they began to shout at Mangold. When Ferguson went over to help Mangold up, Vince Wilfork pushed him in the back, setting Ferguson off. Ferguson punched Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, drawing a penalty. Colon then jumped in and got himself into trouble for pushing an official that was trying to pull him away from the fracas.
Both Colon and Ferguson were ejected from the game.
“It’s still up in the air,” Colon said. “I have not received any information. … I saw my brothers over there. I was running to their aid. I’ve always been like that. I saw Nick and Brick over there and I see the Patriots, so I joined the party.”
Ferguson, who rarely loses his cool, said he did not remember what happened.
“I haven’t looked at it,” Ferguson said. “ It was a frustrating loss. I really don’t remember the particulars. It was just unfortunate that it had to come to that.”
Jets coach Rex Ryan said he understands why Patriots coach Bill Belichick yelled at Mangold after seeing his player get hit out of bounds, but said Mangold did not do it intentionally.
“I know when Nick went to make the tackle his intent was to get the guy on the ground. He had no malicious intent, that’s for sure,” Ryan said. “ As it played out, I can understand because the hit ends up being as the guy goes out of bounds his back is to him and he hits him out of bounds. I understand the penalty but it wasn’t intentional by any stretch.”
The Jets players will find out their discipline later this week.

He’s kind of a brother but I’ve faced my twin brother many times. I think I’m ready for it. Maybe give him a shot before the game.”

The Jets waived punter Robert Malone and re-signed Ryan Quigley to replace him. Ryan said Malone was simply not consistent enough. Malone had an 84-yard punt against the Buccaneers, but also a 21-yard one against the Patriots. Quigley was with the team in training camp. … The Jets also re-signed LB Scott Solomon, taking Mark Sanchez’s roster spot. … The Jets waived WR Rahsaan Vaughn from the practice squad and brought back LB Danny Lansanah to the practice squad. … The Jets tried out a few WRS on Monday, according to a source. The most notable was Preston Parker, who played for the Buccaneers from 2010-12 and spent training camp this year with the Saints.
