Escape from NY!

A Republican politician from Connecticut is running a TV ad in New York inviting city residents who fear the coming Bill de Blasio administration to move to his state.

Governor wannabe Tom Foley trashes the mayor-elect in his ad by using The Post’s Nov. 4 front page, which exposed de Blasio’s 1980s trip to the communist Soviet Union under the headline “Back in the USSR.”

The 30-second spot targets locals who are dismayed over the election and urges them to move to Connecticut so they can vote for Foley next November.

“Hey, New York City, with your new mayor I know many of you are thinking about leaving,” Foley says in the spot. “Connecticut next year will probably elect a new governor. When it does, Connecticut once again will be the place people want to be in the northeast.”

He says he believes that Connecticut will soon have conservative leadership.

“We elected a governor here three years ago that was like-minded to your new mayor,” he told the Post. “It’s been an economic disaster for the state.”

Foley has formed an exploratory committee for a possible run against Democratic incumbent Dannel Malloy.

Democrats have dismissed Foley’s ad as a cheap political stunt.

Foley insisted that he is addressing Connecticut voters, but is also convinced that New Yorkers are looking for a change.

“I lived in New York City for 11 years. If I still lived there I would move,” he said.
