CNN brings in Ginsberg from Time Warner

Gary Ginsberg, 51, the executive vice president of corporate marketing and communications at Time Warner, is expected to join CNN as the deputy to Jeff Zucker, the president of CNN Worldwide.

“They’ve been discussing it for months,” said one source with knowledge of the talks, who said the deal is not yet finalized and could still come undone.

The deal, if it is completed, would not take effect until January, said the source.

Ginsberg, Zucker and Time Warner brass are still hammering out the exact title Ginsberg will take — but whatever they name the newly created position, it will be in essence No. 2 Zucker.

Zucker, the 48-year-old TV executive, took over the ratings-challenged cable network last November and has been trying to revamp its on-air talent to pump up its anemic ratings.

Ginsberg began his current job in 2010 and has been a close aide to Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes, who has been streamlining the company by spinning off divisions.

Ginsberg served as executive vice president at News Corp. (which owns The Post) from 1999 to 2010.

Earlier in his career, he was part of John F. Kennedy Jr.’s launch team — as a top editor and executive — at George magazine.

Neither Time Warner nor Ginsberg would comment on the CNN speculation.
