Time Warner Cable, LIPA rank among most despised companies in US

Time Warner Cable and the Long Island Power Authority are among the most despised companies in America, scoring remarkably low customer-service ratings according to a consumer study.

The Ann Arbor, Mich.-based American Consumer Satisfaction Index measures customer satisfaction of hundreds of companies and found TWC and LIPA to be bottom of the barrel.

ACSI officials said they call thousands of customers and quizzed them with detailed queries about services they received, quality and value of the product, leading to a 0-to-100 rating.

TWC scored a 60 for this year, according to ACSI’s ratings. Time Warner had rated a 63 in 2012 and had a 63 back to 2001, the first year the company was analyzed by ACSI.

The subscription TV business has been on an overall upswing, with the industry garnering an overall score of 68 this year, up for a 64 in 2001 and 61 in 2002.

LIPA was still smarting from its woeful performance following Hurricane Sandy in late October, 2012.

The Long Island utility scored a 43 this year, down from 58 in 2012 and 65 in 2011. Municipal utilities, overall, has been at a steady plateau scoring a 73 in 2011 and a 76 in both 2012 and 2013.

TWC declined immediate comment and LIPA officials could not be immediately reached.
