New York City will conduct a deer census by air

They’re cute and sweet and everybody loves them — until one crashes into your car.

To get a handle on just how many deer are roaming city parks, officials are planning to take to the air with low-flying planes equipped with infrared cameras to take a count.

“There are hundreds of deer in my community,” City Councilmember Vincent Ignizio (R-SI) said Monday. “They’re rapidly reproducing.”

Short of any birth-control initiative, Ignizio said he was at a loss as to how to regulate the population.

The Parks Department was unclear about what it would do when the count information is compiled.

Residents across Staten Island and The Bronx have been plagued by the menacing animals.

In 2012, 44 dead deer were removed from roads on Staten Island. By early October last year, 34 deer had been hauled away for cremation.
