Babe Ruth’s summer house on the market

An unusual 22.5-acre property is now on the market in Shelter Island, at 6 Daniel Lord Road.

We hear the great Babe Ruth once summered there, and that years after he left kids would still hunt in the woods for baseballs they hoped the Bambino had left behind.

The home is now owned by John Wilson, a retiree, along with the estate of Charles Perlitz, a philanthropist who helped create the Mashomack Preserve, which is part of the Nature Conservancy on Shelter Island.

Wilson drove to Shelter Island in 1968, fell in love with the estate, and bought “Rolling Acres” for $85,000 — a lot of money back then. But now he’s asking $7.8 million for the 2,229-square- foot, five bedroom, one-plus bath property.

With the driveway hidden and most of the home obscured by trees, many locals don’t know the property exists, said Saunders listing broker Penelope Moore.

Nearby is the home of Bill Persky, the octogenarian who created “That Girl” and “Kate and Allie.”

Where art thou?

Artist Greg Miller has bought a $780,000 Hamptons home in the Springs in East Hampton at 102 Talmage Farm Lane, just up the street from the Pollock-Krasner House.

Cindy Glanzrock, CEO of Glanzrock Realty Services, brokered the deal. The former owners were asking $799,000.

Miller plans to expand the 1,600 square foot home into a working artist’s studio.  Glanzrock is also establishing local artist-in-residence programs in commercial spaces on the South Fork and in Manhattan.
