Wipeout!

A slick Midtown intersection got the best of several New Yorkers on Wednesday, with pedestrians falling in spectacular fashion while trying to cross Fifth Avenue at 40th Street.

Ankles twisted at odd angles and hands and arms couldn’t break falls. Folks thudded to the hard ground on their bottoms, hips, sides and knees with shopping bags, purses, and briefcases flying.

With blacktop visible in just a few places, even those with snow boots and deeply-treaded shoes lost the battle to remain upright when their footwear became clogged with slush and snow.

Bikers weren’t immune, either. One cyclist slammed to the ground on his backside after his bike slid out from under him on the treacherous roadway.
