One of the best parts of ABC’s “Nashville” is its original songs, and viewers were treated to another gem Wednesday night from the show’s central couple, Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten).
There’s no video available of the song yet — called “This Time” — because ABC wants you to buy it on iTunes, but you can listen to the preview of it here.
After focusing on their own projects — Rayna with her new label Highway 65 and Deacon with his solo career — the former lovers realized they make better music together and decided to collaborate on “This Time.”
The musical reunion had fans cheering on Twitter. A tweet from the @NashvilleABC account asking if viewers hoped Rayna and Deacon would “fall back into old habits” got 363 retweets.
Will Deacon and Rayna fall back into old habits? RT if you think (or hope) so! #Nashville pic.twitter.com/KyoMm4ZIVt

“Nashville” creator Callie Khouri tweeted:
Rayna and Deacon trending nationally. Now if only they would "trend" for real. #Nashville

That prompted fans to plead that Khouri get the characters back together on the show.
@CallieKhouri @ZmanShira "if only?" Seriously? Do it already!! #DoneWaiting

@CallieKhouri YOU have the power to make that happen! LOL It's not nice to tease! <g>

But judging by the episode’s end, fans may have to wait for “Deyna” to be an item again. Despite knocking out a single in an afternoon, Rayna and Deacon decided it was best to move forward with their solo projects — and their new love interests: Deacon with lawyer Megan and Rayna with country star Luke Wheeler.
