“Saturday Night Live” has found a “Weekend Update” co-anchor to succeed Seth Meyers.
Head writer Colin Jost will take the role alongside Cecily Strong starting March 1, after Meyers leaves to host “Late Night,” NBC confirms.
Meyers’ last “SNL” episode will be Feb. 1, with his “Late Night” debut set for Feb. 24.
Jost follows in the tradition of having head writers assume the “Weekend Update” desk – both Meyers and Tina Fey before him started in the writer’s room.
Jost joined “SNL” in 2005 after graduating from Harvard University, where he was president of the Harvard Lampoon. He has been head writer since 2012.
According to deadline.com, which first reported the news, Jost has written for such recurring “Weekend Update” characters as Drunk Uncle, The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party and Second-Hand News Correspondent Anthony Crispino.
