Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña snubbed a charter school Friday during a visit to a controversial Harlem site that also houses two other traditional public schools.
Farina toured PS 149 at 41 W. 117 St. after making an outrageous statement last week that charter kids blocked from that facility were “on their own.”
The chancellor later backtracked and pledged to find space for the newly homeless Success Academy Central Harlem charter middle school.
The 117th Street building she toured also houses a Success Academy elementary school, as well as the PS 811M Mickey Mantle school serving special-needs students.
But Fariña only visited PS 149 and the Mickey Mantle school, not Success Academy, sources said.
The Department of Education insisted that Fariña’s visit was routine.
“During today’s visit, she toured the building, met with the principal, and interacted with students at a school that serves some of our neediest children,” said DOE spokeswoman Devora Kaye Friday.
Meanwhile, Gov. Cuomo said he will try to pass a new law to protect charters — even overriding objections from Mayor de Blasio.
