L’Wren Scott’s apparent suicide Monday sent shockwaves through the fashion world. The 6-foot-3, 49-year-old designer and longtime Mick Jagger girlfriend launched an eponymous women’s clothing line in 2006 and gained popularity with her sleek “headmistress” dress worn by A-list fans like Madonna.
“She was glamour with a capital G,” said Laura Brown, Executive Editor, Special Projects Harper’s Bazaar. “She owned her height, owned her hair, wore tight dresses and jeans and didn’t apologize.”
Anne Slowey, Elle’s fashion news director, described Scott as “gracious and warm.” Of Scott’s well-tailored frocks, Slowey said: “Women who bought her clothing commented on how perfectly it fit and [how] wonderfully expensive the fabrics were.”
Last year, Scott worked on a capsule collection with Banana Republic, which released a statement: “[We’re] stunned and saddened to learn of the loss of L’Wren Scott. Our hearts and prayers go out to her friends and family.”
