It turns out she didn’t need her parents’ money after all.
The bratty New Jersey teen who sued her mom and dad for child support and college money is bragging about the hefty scholarship she won from a Massachusetts school.
Rachel Canning, who dropped the ludicrous lawsuit against her folks last month, revealed the windfall on her Facebook page Sunday, The Star-Ledger reported Tuesday.
“Decision made,” Canning wrote on March 30. “WNE U class of 2018 BME Major w/ 56,000$ scholarship.”
Western New England University, the school Canning said she is attending, is located in Springfield, Mass.
The university said in a statement that the sizeable scholarship is likely spread over four years, meaning Canning would get $14,000 per year toward tuition. That’s a good 30 percent chunk of the $46,000 a year she would need, including room and board.
“Western New England University routinely offers merit scholarships to incoming freshmen based on academic achievement,” wrote Barbara Moffat, the school’s vice president for marketing and external affairs.
“These scholarships range from $5,000 to $16,500 annually and are renewable for four years — as long as a student continually meets certain academic benchmarks.”
The university said that federal law prohibits the university from disclosing specific details of Canning’s award package.
The 18-year-old Canning filed a lawsuit for child support and college costs against her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning, on Feb. 24 in a Morristown court.
During the tense proceedings, Rachel moved in with the family of her best friend, Jaime Inglesino.
Jaime’s dad, politically connected attorney John Inglesino, personally funded Canning’s lawsuit.
Rachel complained in court papers that her mom called her “fat” and “porky,” and that as a result, she had developed an eating disorder.
Her parents claimed that she was drinking heavily with a boyfriend and cutting classes. They also said the Inglesino family let their daughter and her friends throw wild ragers.
