Printing error hinders New York state math tests

Some of the math tests being given to students as part of New York state’s annual statewide assessments are missing questions.

Thursday marked the second day of the annual three-day math assessments for students in grades three through eight in New York’s nearly 700 school districts.

The tests measure student progress, but also factor into annual teacher evaluations.

State education officials say a version of the third-grade test given Thursday was missing some questions because of an apparent printing error.

Spokesman Tom Dunn says no tests have been invalidated and the error affects only one of four forms of the third-grade test.

Dunn says schools were advised of possible solutions, including giving students a different version of the test or having them complete it during next week’s makeup period.
