2 dead, 2 injured in violent Brooklyn car crash

A violent car crash in Brooklyn killed two people and left two other victims hospitalized Monday evening, authorities said.

A Nissan Maxima traveling south on Flatbush Avenue slammed into a BMW X5 turning from the northbound lane of Flatbush onto Avenue U at about 6:40 p.m., according to cops.

“The Maxima bounced off the BMW, spun out, and then smashed into a pole nearby on the corner,” said Sammy Tee, 34, citing investigators on scene.

“They cut the roof off to pull the people out,” said Tee, an autobody worker responding to the collision. “They put an oxygen mask on one of the survivor’s faces. The other two people were dead. It’s tragic.”

A female passenger in the Maxima was pronounced dead at the Marine Park intersection, and the car’s driver, a 20-year-old male, was dead on arrival at Coney Island Hospital, police said.

The driver and passenger of the X5 were taken to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries, officials added.

“The guy from the BMW was alright,” said Vincent DeBiasi, 47, Tee’s co-worker. “He was up and responsive. He’s probably banged up and hurt, but honestly he doesn’t seem in too bad a shape.”

Though authorities have not yet identified the cause of the fatal smash-up, Tee heard from first responders that the Maxima had been speeding and ran a light.

“[The driver] was doing at least 100 miles per hour or faster,” Tee said. “[The driver of the X5] had the green arrow, totally had the right of way.”

Police have not yet released the identities of the deceased.

The investigation is ongoing and no one has been charged, officials said.
