Mayor de Blasio’s teenage kids are starting their summer off with a bang — as king and queen of a risqué parade featuring nearly naked “mermaids.”
Chiara and Dante de Blasio, 19 and 16, will dress as Queen Mermaid and King Neptune at Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade.
Past parades have drawn a colorful and carefree crowd, including women going almost topless.
The duo will be wheeled around in an antique wicker “Boardwalk Rolling Chair” from 1923, trailed by marching bands, floats and costumed sea creatures.
“I think [the parade] is very Brooklyn and artsy — but it’s nothing like Mardi Gras in New Orleans,” said Dick Zigun, founder of Coney Island USA — a nonprofit that manages the annual festivities.
“The parade is about mythology, it’s about self-esteem for Coney Island, and it’s about the artist community of New York City showing off,” he added. “We are extraordinarily honored to have the participation of New York City’s first family.”
The parade, which is also a celebration of the summer solstice, is set for Saturday, June 21.
The parade has been led in the past by celebs such as Lou Reed, David Byrne and Harvey Keitel.
Brooklyn’s biggest booster, former Borough President Marty Markowitz, said it was his wife’s idea several months ago to get the de Blasio kids involved.
The couple then helped broker their selection as queen and king.
“I think it’s a fantastic, exciting event — one that I’m sure both children will love,” said Markowitz, who now works promoting city tourism at NYC and Co. “It’s all in good fun.”
Both kids played an energizing role in their dad’s candidacy for mayor last year, and parade organizers hope they’ll spark similar enthusiasm for the fanciful event.
“I think of them representing the next generation of hip New Yorkers . . . which Coney Island needs,” said Zigun.
