Hot and heavy demand for World Cup Caipirinhas-flavored condoms

The World Cup is definitely getting people in the mood.

Specialty Brazil-themed condoms, colored yellow and green and purportedly flavored like Caipirinhas (the country’s signature cocktail), are being snatched up faster than you can say “goal.”

About 2.1 million condoms, or 700,000 three-packs (hat tricks?), have been sold since debuting in February.

The first delivery of 864,000 sold out in 15 days, and an additional batch of the same amount was distributed in Brazil this week.

The condoms were ordered by a Washington-based nonprofit, DKT International, and distributed under the Prudence brand of manufacturer Karex Bhd.

“Major sports or cultural events attract a great number of people and garner much attention, providing a good opportunity to spread a pleasurable and fun safe-sex message,” DKT International’s director for Brazil operations, Daniel Marun, told the Wall Street Journal.

Perhaps not all of the condoms are being put to, um, use. The packages have a history of being preserved as souvenirs.
