A woman’s dismembered body was found in the weeds of a vacant lot by two people who were on their way to the Fire Island ferry Tuesday morning, police said.
At around 6:50 a.m., cops responded to a gruesome scene in a Bayshore parking lot on Maple Avenue.
The woman, who has not been identified yet, was found in a “weed-strung lot” right off the trail, Suffolk County Detective Kevin Beyrer said.
“This lot here, people park here and they walk down to the ferry,” he said at an early morning press conference. “One of them called 911 and waited for the patrol to respond.”
The body was removed and will be examined by the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office to determine cause of death.
Police are looking into missing persons’ reports in the area.
