Time to dine with the dinosaurs and sip Champagne under the big blue whale — the Museum of Natural History is offering an adults-only sleepover next month.
The first-ever “Night at the Museum for Grown-Ups” will feature a three-course dinner, jazz courtesy of the 12th Night Jazz trio and a flashlight tour for 150 lucky guests willing to cough up $375 to spend the night exploring the museum.
Nighttime explorers will be able to roam the deserted hallways of the museum, get special behind-the-scenes looks at some of the exhibits and even see a live spider show of 20 different species of arachnids.
“This is a one-of-a-kind evening centered in an iconic New York City location,” said the museum’s spokesman, Brad Harris. “We think this offers visitors an intimate adventure of discovery that is unlike anything they have seen before.”
The night begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1 and kicks off with an icebreaker champagne reception, the only boozy event of the night. Hot beverages will be flowing throughout the night.
While there’s no midnight snack, guests will enjoy a late-night viewing of the “Dark Universe” space show narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson. The Lunar Lounge in the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth will be open all night as an “oasis for night owls.”
Guests will spend the night below the 94-foot-long blue whale and wake up promptly at 7 a.m. for a light breakfast.
“Imagine the looks you’ll get from your friends and co-workers when you tell them you slept under a blue whale and watched the birth of the universe and the formation of dark matter on Friday night,” Harris said.
The successful slumber party for families started in 2006, and allows kids to explore the museum after dark.
