“Dear white people,” the voice-over begins. “The minimum requirement of black friends required to not seem racist has just been raised to two. Sorry, but your weed-man, Tyrone, does not count.”
Such is the tone of the new satire, “Dear White People,” a film that premiered to raves at Sundance. In the first full-length trailer, we get a better idea of the concept, which spotlights a group of African-American students at a largely white college as they deal with what it means to be black today. Prepare for some razor-sharp wit.
In addition to a slew of up-and-comers, the film stars Dennis Haysbert of “24” fame.
“Dear White People” hits theaters October 17.
