That’s a lot of dough for a piece of cake.
A 33-year-old piece of cake from the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana sold for $1,375 at an online auction.
A private collector snagged the slice on Thursday — three days before Sunday’s 17th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.
The cake came in its original white and silver presentation box with a card reading, “With best wishes from Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince & Princess of Wales.”
The slice was wrapped in wax paper — but experts warned not to eat it.
“The cake turns to crumbs and dust . . . It’s not the cake that’s of value — it’s the box,” said Alicia Carroll of memorabilia dealer Everything Royal, which has sold dozens of slices of historical cakes.
The cake also features the Prince of Wales’ feather crest and a monogrammed “CD” logo.
The LA-based online auction firm Nate D Sanders Auctions put it up for sale.
Princess Diana died in a Paris car crash on Aug. 31, 1997.
