Offense
The Jets dominated in every way except on the scoreboard. The team finished with 402 total yards and got strong performances from a variety of players. The downfall came with seven penalties and two turnovers. QB Geno Smith threw an interception and had a fumble to ruin an otherwise fine day (23-of-28 passing, 221 yards, 1 TD). RB Chris Ivory put the game away with a 71-yard touchdown and new guys Chris Johnson (13 carries, 68 yards) and Eric Decker (5 catches, 74 yards) had good debuts.

Defense
The front seven played as well as everyone expected and the secondary played better than most did. The Raiders had just 25 yards rushing, the lowest total under Jets coach Rex Ryan. Raiders QB Derek Carr (20-of-32, 151 yards, 2 TDs) completed a lot of short passes, but did not hit them for a deep one until late in the game.

Special teams
After a shaky training camp, punter Ryan Quigley boomed a 56-yard punt to pin the Raiders back. KR Saalim Hakim had a 44-yard return to start the game and give the Jets good field position. K Nick Folk was his usual solid self, booting field goals from 45 and 42.

Coaching
The penalties were a problem in the preseason that Rex Ryan laughed off. It nearly came back to bite the Jets on Sunday. The Jets had 11 penalties and blew a few drives with the flags. Ryan needs to get this cleaned up immediately. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg got too cute with some of his red-zone calls. The Jets have a good rushing attack, and they should use it when they are close to the goal line. Ryan had a good plan for Carr on defense and got the rookie confused in the second half.
