WNBA star Cappie Pondexter’s style slam dunk

The boys of the NBA are always getting noticed at New York Fashion Week, but one WNBA star wants in on the style conversation, too — just don’t expect to see her sitting in the front row preening for the cameras.

New York Liberty star guard Cappie Pondexter, who co-owns a style management company called 4Season, will be working backstage at designer Laurel DeWitt’s show at the High Line Hotel Sunday night. She cast the models, styled looks and helped with the creative direction of the show. The designer produces wearable metal clothing and accessories and boasts such A-list fans as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj — and she most recently dressed Amber Rose for the MTV VMAs.

Pondexter says both the fashion and hoops worlds are about getting into the inner circle and being seen — and style will be her “second act” when she hangs up her high tops. Asked about her favorite designers, the baller, who in 2011 was voted one of the top 15 WNBA players of all time, shows she has insider taste.

“Alexander Wang is my go-to,” she said. “His aesthetic is amazing, whether I’m dressing up or down. And I would have to say I love Giuseppe [Zanotti] shoes. His shoes are comfortable — and I am all about comfort.”
