The disgraced cop who drunkenly broke into a woman’s home and pummeled her just hours after receiving NYPD’s second highest honor was indicted Monday, the Bronx DA’s Office announced.
Officer Eugene Donnelly, who works in the 46th Precinct in The Bronx, was indicted on two counts of assault, two counts of criminal trespass, as well as criminal mischief by a Bronx grand jury, authorities said.
Donnelly, 27, went on the drunken rampage last June after receiving the esteemed Combat Cross for taking down an armed suspect who shot at him in 2012.
The cop had gone out drinking with pals and passed out blind drunk at a friend’s house, according to court papers.
When he awoke, he wandered outside in his underwear and busted down the door to a 30-year-old woman’s Woodlawn home at 5:30 a.m.
“Shhh, It’s OK. Just put a shirt on,” Donnelly allegedly said when the terrified tenant awoke.
“Sometimes I’m a good guy, but sometimes I’m a bad guy,” he also told her.
He then stumbled into her kitchen and drank some milk before charging at the victim, throwing her to the floor and punching her in the face, prosecutors said.
He continued to hit her after dragging her by the armpits back into her bedroom.
The victim reported the assault to cops, who put out a Wanted poster with Donnelly’s image and stills from surveillance video. He was arrested after one of his colleagues recognized him.
Donnelly was immediately stripped of his gun and badge, as well as put on modified duty.
He faces up to a year in jail, if convicted.
