Can’t make it to Paris? No worries — Paris is coming to New York. Well, at least its most famous bartender is.
Colin Field, the legendary head barman at the Ritz Paris and Bar Hemingway, which is currently being renovated, is doing his first-ever NYC hotel bar residency from Oct. 6 through 11 at the Mark Hotel.
You can expect a brand-new, permanent, tequila-based cocktail, aptly dubbed the “Mark Cocktail,” and if you’re lucky, a brush with celebrity.
After all, Field is besties with Kate Moss (he bartended her 2011 Cotswolds wedding) and has mixed and stirred for the likes of Marc Jacobs, Sofia Coppola and Anna Wintour at this year’s Met Gala.
“I sort of lived in my own world when I was doing a cocktail for the Met Gala,” says the 52-year-old Paris-based Brit.
“I created a Charles James cocktail. It took me ages. God was with me or something, I was actually growing four-leaf clovers in my garden and I managed to find about 30 or 40 four-leaf clovers, which I coupled with other clovers for the drink,” says Field. “It was as tweaked and designed as a Charles James dress.”
Field, as you can tell, takes his beverages seriously.
“I believe immensely that you are what you drink,” he says.
And no one, according to Field, wants to be a Long Island iced tea.
“It’s silly and it’s stupid, and if you order it, you’re saying you’re silly,” he says. “I don’t think it’s a cocktail that is particularly cultivated, to say the least.”
