Just “a Christian looking for a mitzvah” or is he trying a pull a “fast” one?
A ticket-hungry Nationals fan is ladling out some guilt to try to get into this weekend’s playoff games: The stub-seeker is reminding local Jews to observe Yom Kippur and will be happy to attend in their stead — for the season-ticket-holder face value of $1, of course.
“This way we both win,” it says in the Craigslist post. “I ask you to make a small sacrifice on this High Holiday for the benefit of a fellow Nationals fan as well as your own spiritual well being.”
The Nationals host Game 1 against the Giants at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and Game 2 at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, a fast day considered the holiest on the Jewish calendar, runs from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday.
The Craigslister’s ingenious request includes Hebrew phrases, an invocation of Sandy Koufax and an extensive list of bona fides: “I have been to the shul on many occasions to pay my respects and actually own a kippah, prayer shawl, prayer book, and a tallit bag.”
And, naturally: “I will do a similar good deed for a member of the tribe when the opportunity presents itself.”
This is almost the exact opposite of another would-be Nationals ticket transaction on Craigslist this week.
That poster had two passes to the exclusive Diamond Club for Game 1: “I am willing to part with these tickets to you and a friend in exchange for a threesome (two women only).”
And send pics, natch.
The ad was briskly removed by Craigslist.
