5 things to know about ‘Flash’ star Grant Gustin

What’s faster than the speed of sound and about to crash your primetime lineup on Tuesday nights? The CW’s newest superhero, “The Flash,” that’s what!

Based on the DC comic of the same name, the action-packed series is set to debut on Tuesday, Oct. 7. And while star Grant Gustin may not be a household name just yet, he’s bound to be one of the season’s biggest breakouts.

But before you get acquainted with Gustin’s superhuman alter ego, Barry Allen, here are five things to know about the man behind the mask.

He’s no stranger to the CW

Before scoring a series of his own, Gustin made numerous appearances on other CW shows. Apart from a “Flash”-centric story-arc on “Arrow” last fall, the 24-year-old had a recurring role on the fifth and final season of “90210.” Playing the privileged Campbell Price, Gustin’s character headed the elite, albeit secret, Cronus Society at California University.

He’s an East Coaster at heart

Gustin may now call Vancouver home — that’s where “The Flash” is shot — but he was born and bred on the East Coast. Hailing from Norfolk, Va., the scene stealer fine-tuned his craft by attending the Governor’s School for the Arts in his hometown, as well as Elon University in North Carolina for two years.

He’s got pipes — and isn’t afraid to use them

Unlike most crime-fighters, Gustin has superhuman vocals. The blue-eyed charmer got the chance to show off his pipes during a stint on “Glee” as the cocky Sebastian Smythe. As the captain of the Dalton Academy Warblers, Gustin stole the spotlight with his singing skills in Season 3. He also appeared in additional episodes throughout Seasons 4 and 5.

He was surprised to learn he nabbed the part of ‘The Flash’

When it comes to Gustin, there is no shortage of talent (see his extremely impressive resume). But when he learned that he had scored the role of the lifetime, it came as a “surprise.”

“If it had been a team of people that didn’t know what they were doing, I probably wouldn’t have gotten this role because they would have just cast a blond guy who was buff,” Gustin told the Hollywood Reporter in August. “They were looking for somebody who encompassed the heart of Barry Allen and at first, I didn’t realize it. Now that I’ve explored the character, the comics, read the scripts and talked to [the producers], I understand why I got this role. It will probably forever be my favorite character that I’ll ever get to play.”

He’s social media savvy

While some celebs have Twitter and Instagram accounts that they rarely use, Gustin isn’t one of them. When he isn’t tweeting about baseball or pumpkin spice lattes to his 439,000-plus followers, the animal lover is sharing snaps of his precious pups, Jett and Nora, on Instagram.
