Stick a fork and knife in this pizza joint — Mayor de Blasio certainly would.
The Health Department has temporarily closed a popular Staten Island eatery — where Hizzoner infamously ate a slice of pizza using cutlery earlier this year — after it was found to have serious public-health hazards.
Goodfella’s Pizzeria was hit with 53 violation points during an inspection Wednesday, including for evidence of mice and for cold food items being kept at temperatures that were too warm. That’s nearly twice the 28 points it takes to score a dreaded C grade.
“Goodfella’s Pizzeria was closed due to public-health hazards that couldn’t be corrected at the time of the inspection,” said a Health Department spokesman.
“They can request a reopening inspection as soon as they certify that the problems have been corrected.”
Attempts to reach the owners of the establishment weren’t successful.
The temporary closure was first reported by DNAInfo.com.
While the restaurant has drawn accolades for years — particularly from big booster Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor — it gained national notoriety in January after de Blasio shunned years of local practice and culture by eating a slice with a fork and knife rather than with his hands.
Hizzoner cited his mother’s Italian roots, explaining: “In my ancestral homeland, it is more typical to eat with a fork and knife.”
He also blamed the maneuver on the large number of toppings.
But neither excuse kept him from getting skewered by “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart.
