A university student has been “counseled” after using campus resources to film a live solo sex show — and the library where the show was filmed had to be “steam cleaned.”
Staff at the University of Newcastle were tipped off that the student was using the Auchmuty campus library to film and broadcast herself via live webcam shows.
It’s understood the show was promoted on Twitter, which then linked to a separate site where users had to pay to see the show.
She was eventually caught when staff were given a photograph of her and instructed to call security if she was seen.
Parts of the library reportedly were steam cleaned when university management became aware that the show was filmed there.
A spokeswoman told news.com.au the university was disappointed about the “inappropriate” use of Internet facilities.
“We have a Code of Conduct that clearly outlines the sorts of behaviors the university expects from its community on campus.”
She said the student was “counseled” after the matter was investigated. But she would not reveal specific details, citing the student’s right to privacy.
“An important part of our duty of care is to protect our students’ privacy and it would be inappropriate for the university to provide specific details in relation to the incident.”
Live camera shows make money when “performers” charge a set rate per minute.
According to the Newcastle Herald, at the end of 2013 there were 171 University of Newcastle students registered to a special online dating website that matches students with a ‘‘sugar daddy’’ to fund their education.
