A Connecticut cop and his Good Samaritan gal pal returned a lost wallet – with $6,300 inside – to an incredibly grateful New Jersey woman, officials said.
Jennifer Doherty of Demarest, NJ, visited a sick friend in Bridgeport, Conn., on Sunday and stopped at a Whole Foods in Fairfield where she left her wallet in a shopping cart, according to the Connecticut Post.
The pocket book was discovered by Ashkehn Pogosyan, who the called her boyfriend, off-duty Bridgeport police officer Kevin Cronin, and they together turned over the big cash find to Fairfield cops.
Police tracked down Doherty and reunited her with the lost wallet and cash.
“We find wallets every day, we turn them in (so) hopefully we can contact the owners,” Cronin said.
The cop, however, said this was a little more cash than usually found in lost wallets.
“We never expected this, it’s a little overwhelming – just glad she got the money back,” Cronin said. “It’s the right thing to do. We find something that doesn’t belong to you, you have the right to try to return it.”
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch praised the humble cop.
“Officer Cronin did the most righteous thing,” Finch said. “He fulfilled his obligation of his sworn duty and we just want to say, `Thank you.’ ”
