It’s cold out there — like SERIOUSLY cold — which makes this an ideal time to stay inside and snuggle up with a loved (or lusted) one. Of course, home is always where the heart is, but why not off-site for a weekend at a classic — or contemporary — NYC hotel?
Because across Gotham, some of the city’s top properties are offering serious discounts and deals aimed at both travelers and locals. It’s a bit like being a short-term Eloise — though sadly most folks can only hide out for a few days.
Here are some of the city’s best bets.
The Peninsula New York
We love how much NYC’s Peninsula Hotel loves New Yorkers — so much so that they’ve just launched a special package aimed solely for NYC residents. Available through March 29, “locals only” rates begin at $399 on weekends and include free pick-up, breakfast, spa discounts and unlimited on-demand movies.
Guests must live in the city — and present accompanying ID — and use the promo code NYLOCAL when booking online.
The Standard High Line
This far-West Side favorite not only offers stellar views, it also houses its own ice-skating rink during winter months. To make the most of this family-friendly amenity, the hotel is offering a fun “Skate and Stay” package starting at $334 per night.
For that rate, guests get a room (natch!) — along with cold-weather goodies like skating-passes and skates, tasty hot chocolate, and yummy donuts. Fun!
The Standard East Village
Across town, the Standard East Village is making the most of the property’s location close to key downtown cultural hot spots and some of the city’s top dining spots.
The hotel’s “Waiting for Saturday” packages — which also begins at $334 per night — includes a guest room (with panoramic lower Manhattan views) along with brunch for two at the Standard’s farm-focused Narcissa, a pair of tickets to the nearby New Museum, a swagalicious Standard goodie bag, and discounts at groovy nearby shops.
The Chatwal
Midtown’s deco-cool Chatwal has quietly emerged as one of the city’s best-kept luxury secrets. For winter, the hotel — part of the Luxury Collection — is offering a swanky “Spa Rejuvenation” package through Feb. 28.
The package includes a sweet guest room, tasty continental breakfast, and a series of three (yes, THREE) different body treatments from the hotel’s 2,400-square-foot Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa — from a deep-tissue massage to an oxygen-infused facial. The package starts at a steep $1,150 per night — but that luxe spa ain’t cheap!
Loews Regency
This classic Park Avenue pad is justifiably one of Gotham’s poshest — and priciest — properties. But even in the heart of the Upper East Side, there are deals to be found.
What kind of deals? How about nearly 40 percent savings via the hotel’s Valentine’s Day special — which includes a plush Superior King guest room, a bottle of Prosecco, chocolate-dipped strawberries, comfy monogrammed robes, and both parking and a late check-out.
Rooms begin at $499 per night and are available from Feb. 12 to 17.
The Hyatt Union Square
This newish property is perfectly located just below Union Square in the heart of downtown — close to everything. For winter, the hotel is offering a series of special deals and packages.
The most basic is the Bed & Breakfast package, which begins at $259 per night and includes full breakfast for two at the hotel’s comfort-food-filled restaurant the Fourth, a late 4 p.m. check-out and 15 percent off all spa services at the nearby Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. That’s like 40 percent off average room rates and some $170 in free loot. Nice!
