Sen. Charles Schumer is urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to make measles shots free and widely available, like the flu vaccine.
So far, 102 people in the US have been infected with the measles virus, sparking concern over some parents’ decision to not to vaccinate their children. But Schumer said that doctors need to work harder to “change the dialogue.”
“[We need] to make abundantly clear to parents that vaccines work, that they are safe and it’s actually far more dangerous for children to go unvaccinated, rather than to vaccinate,” he said.
