Amanda Knox’s future husband has been revealed to be a New York musician named Colin Sutherland, but up until now, his work has had an audience best described as “select.”
Sutherland is the bassist and singer in the Johnny Pumps, a New York-based, Strokes-influenced indie-rock band. They refer to themselves as “slag rock,” and they self-released their album, “That Escalated Quickly,” online in 2013, then played a string of small shows in Brooklyn and Manhattan. But according to their tour history, the group have never played outside their hometown.
They also have a love for New York punk, as this fizzy version of The Ramones’ “Rockaway Beach” shows.
On the band’s Web site, Sutherland is referred to as the member of the band who “likes flat soda.” The others (referred to only by their first names) include Fred, who “likes to take cat pictures,” Eliran, who “enjoy [sic] all outdoor activities,” and Blake, who “likes to watch ‘Jeopardy’ by candlelight.” The band bio also jokes that “one of us used to be a woman, but we won’t say who.”
A call placed by the New York Post to their “press contact” as listed on their Web site was met with a simple “I have no comment, thank you.”
Sutherland also plays in a project called the Haunted Life, who, in 2013, announced plans to make a TV show about playing in haunted venues across the country.
According to reports, Knox and Sutherland first met in middle school, and Sutherland wrote to her while she was in an Italian prison between 2009 and 2011, serving time for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher. They became engaged on Feb. 3, though no wedding date has been confirmed. As Knox lives in Seattle, the future of the Johnny Pumps is unclear, although their last Facebook post on Wednesday indicated that they had finished working on new songs and are looking to book new shows.
