Construction app raises $5 million in first round of funding
The construction business is getting the Silicon Valley treatment.
Getable, a mobile app that connects construction companies with heavy equipment renters, has raised $5 million in its first major round of funding — as construction in the US ticks up on the mending housing market, The Post has learned.
The app allows companies to rent equipment — from dozers to cranes to excavators — from vendors without having to call each one up for their prices, said Tim Hyer, founder of the mobile company.
Getable started as Rentcycle, a hub for renting everything from bikes to limousines, before focusing on the construction business, Hyer said.
“Even eBay started with Beanie Babies and grew from there,” he told The Post.
The company’s user base of 120 vendors and 60 construction companies are all in California, Hyer said, but he’s looking to expand to other areas such as New York, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and Washington, DC.
Getable takes a 10 percent cut for connecting renters and vendors, Hyer said.
The funding round, which was led by Social Capital Partnership, values the company at about $16 million, Hyer said.
