1. “The Last Man on Earth”
Sunday, 9 p.m., Fox
Ex-“SNL”-er Will Forte (“Nebraska”) created and stars in this sitcom that’s set in the year 2020 — where Phil Miller (Forte) is, literally, the last man on Earth after the planet’s entire male population has been wiped out by a deadly virus. Tooling around the country in his RV, Phil searches for fellow survivors but finds no one — until he returns to his hometown of Tucson, Ariz. Careful what you wish for.
2. “Downton Abbey”
Sunday, 9 p.m., PBS
The most popular show in PBS history — which has had the gumption to air original episodes opposite the Super Bowl the past two years — wraps its fifth season in a two-hour episode in which the Crawleys join their new in-laws, Lord and Lady Sinderby, for a shooting party at a castle in Northumberland — where Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) tries to reason with Lord Sinderby (James Faulkner). The group then returns to Downton Abbey for the Christmas holidays. Maggie Smith, Penny Downie, Hugh Bonneville and Allen Leech co-star.
3. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”
Friday on Netflix
This new series, created by Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) and writing/production partner Robert Carlock, was originally supposed to air on NBC, which ended up passing. Netflix, on the other hand, already renewed it for a second season before its first episode has even dropped. Ellie Kemper stars as Kimmy, the ex-member of a doomsday cult who’s trying to adjust to life as a nanny in New York City. Co-stars include Tituss Burgess and Jane Krakowski, as Kimmy’s boss.
4. “Conan”
Wednesday, 11 p.m., TBS
Late-night funnyman Conan O’Brien recently spent a weekend in Cuba, and devotes this entire episode to his sojourn there, sharing his reminiscences about the country and showing video shot by his camera crew in and around Havana. O’Brien promises to give viewers “a rare glimpse into the daily life of a country not often seen by American viewers.”
5. “Gotham”
Monday, 8 p.m., Fox
In last week’s episode, “Red Hood,” Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) gouged out her left eye with a tablespoon, to avoid getting killed alongside her fellow prisoners being held captive by the Dollmaker and his “The Manager” (who actually wanted both of her eyes). In Monday night’s episode, “Everyone Has a Cobblepot,” Fish sports her new left eye (above) — and we also meet Dr. Francis Dulmacher (Colm Feore), aka “The Dollmaker,” in the flesh for the first time.
6. “Dig”
Thursday, 10 p.m., USA
This “event series” (translation: 10 episodes) stars Jason Isaacs and Anne Heche and tells the story of FBI agent Peter Connelly (Isaacs), stationed in Jerusalem, who opens an investigation into the murder of a young American — and realizes he’s uncovered an ancient international conspiracy. Heche plays Lynn Monahan, Connelly’s boss and occasional lover. It’s from the executive producers of “Homeland” and “Heroes.”
7. “The Following”
Monday, 9 p.m., Fox
The Kevin Bacon (right) drama returns for its third season, one year after ex-FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Bacon) put serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) behind bars. Season 2 averaged a respectable 8.2 million viewers — though that was down 3 million viewers from the show’s first season. Shawn Ashmore, Jessica Stroup, Sam Underwood and Zuleikha Robinson co-star.
8. “Switched at Birth”
Tuesday, 9 p.m., ABC Family
This surprisingly addictive series, which premiered in 2011, has taken its protagonists (some of whom are deaf) from high school to college — where Daphne (Katie Leclerc) considers rushing a sorority while Bay (Vanessa Marano) gets up in Travis’ (Ryan Lane) grill when his popularity as a UMKC baseball player starts to affect his relationship with girlfriend Mary Beth (B.K. Cannon).
