Ex-‘Today Show’ boss Horowitz looks to return to sports roots
Former ESPN executive Jamie Horowitz is in talks to return to his sports roots, after a brief stint running the NBC News “Today” show.
Sources tell The Post that Horowitz has been holding conversations with several sports media outlets, including Fox Sports, about senior positions.
The executive was spotted chatting to executives at the Fox lot, according to sources.
Horowitz exited NBC News because of clashes with boss Deborah Turness after he presented a bold vision for “Today,” which included moving Hoda Kotb into the earlier hours of the show.
Horowitz, who was reported to have signed a three-year $3.3 million deal with NBC, was previously vice president of original programming and production at ESPN and developed studio shows for the company, including Olbermann, First Take and SportsNation, according to his LinkedIn biography.
The executive was in the midst of a tug-of-war between ESPN, which wanted to keep him, and NBC, which wanted to get him out of his contract to start him as soon as possible.
Horowitz had previously worked at NBC Sports, where he won four Emmys for Olympic programming.
Horowitz was hired last September but lasted just a few months at NBC News.
Hollywood sources add that the sports expert has also been consulting for Peter Berg, creator of “Friday Night Lights,” on new projects.
The executive couldn’t be reached for comment.
