Gov. Cuomo and new Democratic Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced Tuesday they’re on the same page on ethics reform.
But it takes three to make a law in Albany and the GOP-run state Senate was not part of the tentative accord — indicating partial progress, partial setback.
Cuomo and the Democrats said they agreed to make it easier to revoke the pensions of public officials convicted of corruption, require lawyer-legislators to report what they do to earn their outside income, and tighten per diem travel payments to legislators traveling to and from Albany.
Former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was indicted for alleged kickbacks he received through his secret legal work. He denies the charges.
“I want to applaud the speaker and the Assembly for stepping up,” said Cuomo, who in a rare gesture, walked to the Assembly chamber on the third floor of the state Capitol to join forces with Heastie.
A spokesman for Senate Republican Majority Leader Dean Skelos declined comment.
