A new digital tool will help transit riders avoid leaving annoying balances on their card– by figuring out how much they need to load onto their cards to end up with a zero balance.
The MetroCard Calculator will help straphangers figure out how much of a bonus they will get when they load money on their MetroCards, as well as how many trips will get.
For instance, if a rider has 30 cents left on a card and loads $5 on their card, the card would be left with a $2.55 balance after one trip once the fare hike goes into effect on Sunday.
The calculator instead recommends that the straphanger load $19.55, which would give them $22 with the 11 percent bonus.
It would give the rider 8 trips and leave a zero balance.
The new fares that go into effect include a $2.75 base fare and a $31 weekly. The monthly MetroCard will rise to $116.50.
