A bunny-hoarding Brooklyn woman has filed suit to get back the 237 rabbits the city seized from her, claiming that cops didn’t have a warrant when they first raided the Gowanus backyard where she kept them.
Dorota Trec claims that she took good care of the rabbits and that the NYPD didn’t have a warrant when they raided her home to take the bunnies.
“There was no warrant on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 when Captain Digiacomo seized 80 rabbits,” the suit says.
“Over 20 big policemen were running like crazy in the garden, stepping on rabbits and injuring rabbits, using sharp tools, chasing and scaring rabbits to death.”
The suit also seeks the return of 105 rabbits seized three days later, plus another 60 rabbits she says are “undisputably healthy and not needed for evidence.”
Trec says in the suit that she loves her rabbits. But she has been charged with torturing, injuring, and not feeding her animals.
“All rabbits were taken legally. The rabbits had scratch marks and bite marks, they were not in good physical condition,” a police source said.
Law-enforcement sources said some of the rabbits were infected with syphilis.
The Law Department will review the lawsuit, said a spokesman.
A Brooklyn DA spokeswoman declined to comment on pending litigation.
