He busted bad guys and preached the Bible — but he was hardly the good Christian cop his acquaintances believed him to be.
NYPD officer Vladimir Sosa, 38, who is charged with raping a 16-year-old girl from his Bronx church, deceived his neighbors and colleagues into thinking he was a deeply moral man, sources said.
“He always says, ‘God bless your kids,’” said Maria Torres, 42, who lives with her young daughter.
“It’s scary and really surprising. You could never believe he’s capable of that.”
The arrest has put her on edge.
“I’m not saying he’s guilty but now we have to be careful,” she explained.
Even his fellow cops at the 46th Precinct were “shocked” to hear of his illicit affair with a teen, sources said.
They knew Sosa as a hard-core Christian who never talked about girls inappropriately.
“He was a real tightwad, or that was the appearance he gave off,” a police source said. “He would let on that he was a pastor and he would quote scripture from the Bible. He maintained a very good cover.”
The teen’s mom alerted authorities after discovering incriminating text messages between Sosa and her daughter, who both attended Iglesia Metodista El Remanente church in the Bronx.
While he preached the word and studied theology at United Christian College in North Carolina, according to his Facebook page, he never became an ordained Free Methodist pastor, Bishop David Roller said.
