The Jets added more depth on Wednesday, agreeing to a one-year deal with tight end Kellen Davis, the team announced.
Davis, 29, played seven games, including one in the playoffs, for the Lions last year. He was with the Giants in training camp, but was part of the final cuts. Davis won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks after the 2013 season.
Davis is primarily a run-blocking tight end, something the Jets have been missing in recent years. Top tight ends Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland are primarily receivers. Even third-string tight end Zach Sudfeld is more of a receiver. Davis did not have a catch last year for the Lions.
In seven seasons with the Bears, Seahawks and Lions, Davis has 50 catches for 561 yards and 12 touchdowns.
