The MTA board approved a deal on Wednesday that will give developers the right to build the tallest building in Queens.
The massive apartment tower will have up to 77 stories and 744,000 square feet of residential space.
It will be built by Queens Plaza Park Development and real estate investor Kamran Hakim at the Long Island City intersection of Queens Plaza North and 41st Avenue.
The deal is expected to be finalized within the next two months.
The current tallest building in Queens is the 50-story Citigroup Building, also in Long Island City.
MTA officials got into a heated debate over how much of the building should be used for affordable housing.
The authority said they would create a general policy to guide any mandates for affordable housing going forward in any real estate transactions.
