If your head is still spinning, there’s a good chance you’re still not over the season finale of “Pretty Little Liars.”
The popular ABC Family series, which wrapped its fifth season Tuesday night, delivered an hour full of chills, thrills and non-stop OMG-moments. From the return of a familiar frenemy to the revelation of “A’s” identity, we’re rounding up the finale’s five biggest bombshells.
“A” hijacks the girls’ van to prison
Orange is definitely the new black for our merry band of “Liars.” After being found guilty of Mona’s (Janel Parrish) murder, former queen bee Alison (Sasha Pieterse) is heading back to prison. Though jailbird Hanna (Ashley Benson) won’t be sharing a cell with her ex-best-friend, there’s a chance she may be shacking up with Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) or Emily (Shay Mitchell).
As a van carts the jumpsuit-clad foursome off to the big house, things naturally go awry. After knocking the jailhouse express off the road, “A” gasses the girls before kidnapping them.
Welcome to the world’s creepiest dollhouse
When you prefer to rot away in a jail cell, you know things are bad. Case in point: the “Liars’ ” latest predicament. Now that “A’s” tear gas has worn off, the girls are finally waking up in their new digs — replicas of their actual rooms, plus cameras. While there’s no question that beds beat cots any day of the week, this new abode is anything but a dream.
With “A” still acting as the puppet master, the serial stalker can control what his or her “dolls” do and where they go at any given time. And if that’s not creepy enough, discovering that a fifth house guest lurks in the quarters sure is. Leading to the revelation that . . .
Mona is alive
That’s right, Hanna’s other BFF is no longer six feet under. Despite what viewers have been led to believe this season, the former villainess is currently residing in “A’s” dungeon of doom. And while the girls are certainly in shock over seeing Mona in the flesh, they’re also extremely confused as to why she’s rocking blond locks and Alison-esque attire.
As it turns out, “A” is forcing the one-time Radley patient to not only act as Ali, but to become her as well. But smart-as-a-fox Mona is one step ahead of the hooded baddie, faking it while plotting an escape.
Charles is “A”
Mona may be the original Public Enemy Letter “A,” but it looks like a mysterious figure named Charles is taking the reins. But the real question is: who is he? Rumors are swirling that the deranged villain is the twin of Jason DiLaurentis (Drew Van Acker), Ali’s estranged older brother.
Though Charles’ back story is hazy to say the least, the DiLaurentis home video Spencer uncovers during the episode supports the twinning theory even more. Not only does the clip in question show the late Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker) holding a baby girl (Ali, perhaps?), but instructing what looks to be her twin sons to kiss their sister.
Executive producer Marlene King has made it clear that Charles is a member of the DiLaurentis brood, but the actual age of Ali and Jason’s long-lost sibling is unknown.
There is no real escape from “A’s” dollhouse
The “Liars” definitely aren’t in Rosewood anymore. In fact, we’re not sure where they are. Following their escape from the disturbing dollhouse, the girls discover that they are not only caged in by an electric fence, but surrounded by acres of evergreens.
Better settle into your new dwelling, gals, because in “A’s” forest, only he can hear you scream.
